The importance of Aida extends beyond music history: Verdi's marvellous opera also occupies an eminent spot in the history of the Szeged Open-Air Festival, as the piece will be celebrating a special anniversary in 2019. It will have been exactly 80 years earlier, in 1939, when the work was first presented on Cathedral Square. We will be celebrating the milestone year on Cathedral Square with the usual rich visual design and a cast of top performers singing in Hungarian.
